Albrecht Duerer - self portraitAlbrecht Duerer was born in the year 1471, in the Imperial Free City of Nurnberg, Germany. His father was a goldsmith, and Duerer became an apprentice to him in te year 1485.

Self-portraits were a favorite of Albrecht Duerer, and he composed many over the course of his lifetime. The most famous of these portrays Duerer in a direct likeness to Christ. Many believe that this self-portrait was intended to point toward the God-given creativity he enjoyed.

Copper engravings are a large part of the body of work Albrecht Duerer created in his life. He is most well known for his enigmatic copperplate engravings made between 1513 and 1514. It is in these engravings that Duerer’s master crafting skills are seen at their full fruition.

Also widely known for his religious works, Albrecht Duerer paints moving portraits of such historical accounts as the Magi worshipping baby Jesus, Christ among the doctors, and the Virgin with her baby.

Albrecht Duerer died in the year 1528, in Nurnberg, the city of his birth.
