Ludwig KirchnerErnst Ludwig Kirchner was born on the 6th May, 1880 in Aschaffenburg. Ludwig Kirchner studied in 1901 to 1905 architecture in Dresden. In the meantime he visited the art school of Debschütz. With Erich Heckel, Fritz Bleyl and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Ludwig Kirchner founded the artist's group the bridge. He created expressionist nude-, portraits, circus- and stage pictures. Stays in Goppeln, on Fehmarn and in the Moritzburger ponds stamp his pictures. In 1911 numerous big-city pictures originated after his move to Berlin. The "chronicle of the bridge 1913 written in by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner led to the dissolving of the artist's group. By the announcement to the war service he suffered a nervous breakdown and became dependent on drugs. Since 1917 Ludwig Kirchner lived in Davos. In the end of 1925 the artist started to a 3-month Germany trip. His painting style became flater and very abstracting. The Nazis called in 1937 the painting of Ludwig Kirchner "degenerated". After that 639 his works were removed from public collections. On the 15th June, 1938 Ludwig Kirchner committed suicide in Frauenkirch near Davos. |
