Henri MatisseHenri Matisse was born in 1869 in the French Le Cateau-Cambrésis. As a young man he finished at first a law study. After an appendicitis during the hospitalisation Henri Matisse began with painting. Henri Matisse became 1892 pupil of the symbolist Gustave Moreau. During this time in Paris Henri Matisse copied primarily the old masters, then turned, nevertheless, to the impressionism. Besides, his idols were the painters Cezanne and Gauguin. Henri Matisse was stimulated by her late-impressionistic style to his own extremely colored works. Although the paintings look extremely brightly Henri Matisse limited himself on the basic colours, on red, blue and green. He left three-dimensionality completly besides. With these principles Matisse created the new art direction of the Fauvismus. Before all Henri Matisse painted significant still life, but also sceneries and interiors. Especially also his paintings of people, in particular women are known. In his late work the painter dealt more and more with large-size compositions. Thus he painted, for example, the wall paintings of a minster in Nice. Up to his death in 1954 Henri Matisse dealt with the art , thus, for example, with his famous scissors cuts of the last years. |
