Roy Lichtenstein

On 27th October, 1923 the pop art painter Roy Lichtenstein was born in Manhattan the part of New York City.

Beside the visit of a private school from 1939 Roy Lichtenstein booked courses in the Art Students league of New York. Lichtenstein's to preferential motives are for example street parties and models scenes from New York.

After the High School Roy Lichtenstein visited the School of Fine Arts in Ohio State University, discontinuous in 1943-45 by the military service.

In 1949 Roy Lichtenstein married Isabel Wilson and got 2 sons with her. He dealt with different directions, as expressionism or abstraction.

From the middle of the 50s Roy Lichtenstein works went for the first time in the direction of pop art. He issued his often experimental works at first with small success .

In the end, by the imitation of industrial pressure technology Roy Lichtenstein broke with all traditions. His style mixed elements of the abstraction with comic.

For his artistic performance Roy Lichtenstein received in 1995 the Kyoto price.

Roy Lichtenstein succumbed on the 29th September, 1997 to a pneumonia.
