Tamara de Lempickawas born on the 16th May, 1989 as Tamara Gorska in Warsaw. Her youth she spent in Lausanne and Saint Petersburg. In 1916 Tamara de Lempicka married the lawyer Tadeusz Lempicki with whom she fled in 1918 before the Russian revolution to Paris where her daughter Kizette was born. Tamara de Lempicka continued her art study, proceeded in high-powered circles and celebrated from 1922 the first results with portraits and nudes in the style of the art-déco. After Tamara de Lempicka separated in 1928, she married in 1933 the hungarian baron Raoul Kuffner. In 1935 ends her first creating phase. In 1939 Tamara de Lempicka emigrated to Beverly Hills and New York. After the war Tamara de Lempicka lived for a short time in Paris, before she moved 1962 to Houston. Her abstract works which made since 1950 and the late-impressionistically looking spatula pictures of the sixties remained fruitless. In 1978 Tamara de Lempicka moved to Mexico where she died on the 18th March, 1980 in Cuernavaca. |
